Growing Minds is North Kent Mind’s affordable emotional wellbeing service for children and young people aged 5-18 living in Dartford, Gravesend and Swanley.
The service provides short-term, evidence-based emotional wellbeing support delivered by practitioners who may be undertaking professional training or developing their clinical skills under appropriate supervision.
All practitioners receive regular supervision and support from experienced and qualified clinicians to ensure safe, effective and high-quality care.
Growing Minds operates as a low-cost service. Session contributions are:
£15 per session for Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) interventions
£20 per session for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Autism & Learning Disability (ASC/LD) pathway interventions.
What support is available?
Growing Minds offers short-term, goal-focused support for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate emotional wellbeing difficulties.
Support may include:
Guided self-help and low-intensity interventions.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Adapted interventions for autistic children and young people and those with learning disabilities.
Parent and carer support where appropriate.
Individual and group-based interventions.
Sessions can be delivered: In person – Online – One-to-one – In groups
The service is available Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
Support is typically provided for between 6 and 14 weeks depending on the pathway and individual needs identified during triage.
Consists of three different roles:
Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners (CWPs)
- Guided self-help
- For mild mental health difficulties
- Goal-focused
Support offered:
Brief, goal-focused interventions for mild mental health difficulties
Work with children, young people and parents/carers depending on need
Provide evidence-based low-intensity interventions such as guided self-help
CBT Trainees (High-Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapists)
- CBT
- For moderate mental health difficulties
- Structured, evidence-based therapy
Support offered:
Training to deliver full, high-intensity CBT for moderate mental health difficulties
Work within specialist CYP mental health teams
Provide structured, evidence-based therapy under close supervision
Autism & Learning Disability (ASC/LD) Pathway Trainees
- Specialist support
- Adapted psychological interventions
- Work collaboratively
Support offered:
Specialise in supporting autistic children/young people and those with learning disabilities
Receive training in adapted psychological interventions
Work collaboratively with families, schools and multidisciplinary teams
